The announcement feels like a cold sanction. Idriss Aarabi has been appointed CEO of TMPA S.A during the agency's board meeting held on February 27, 2025, according to Medias24. He succeeds Hassan Abkari, the former CEO of the Tangier Port Authority, who was recently dismissed from his position. The announcement comes just days after revelations of emerging private activities in Spain's port sector, led by Hassan Abkari. On January 13, 2025, Hassan Abkari founded New Port Consulting 2024, a consultancy firm specializing in port service management, with a symbolic capital of 1 euro. Based in Valencia, the company is registered in the city's official commercial register, published on February 18, 2025, as reported by Economiadigital. Hassan Abkari is the sole partner and administrator. The company's business purpose includes technical consulting in port service management, as well as the purchase, management, transformation, and operation of rural and urban real estate, excluding leasing. This initiative is not the first connection between Hassan Abkari and Valencia's port sector. In September 2024, during the Valencian Business Association (AVE) Forum, a delegation traveled to Morocco to visit Tanger Med. Abkari then welcomed the delegation and showcased the port's performance and contribution, which the AVE considered a «key infrastructure» for international maritime trade. Hassan Abkari joined Tanger Med in 2006, holding various positions before becoming the CEO of the Port Authority. He was also a board member of the Tangier Med Special Agency (TMSA). His successor, Idriss Aarabi, joined TMPA in 2007 as the operations manager for passenger and ro-ro ports. A native of Tangier, he holds a specialized Master's degree in commerce and management. Before Tanger Med, he began his career in 2002 at Morocco's National Motorway Company (ADM).
