Casablanca's second deputy mayor, Hussein Nasrallah, has highlighted the prevalence of rentier practices in the city's street parking attendants. In defense of the recent suspension of license grants, Nasrallah disclosed that 40 families control 160 authorizations, alongside company owners holding licenses. Last week, Mayor Nabila Rmili addressed irregularities within the sector and announced the establishment of an investigative commission. In an interview with Al Akhbar, Nasrallah revealed that «many license holders are company owners». He noted that some have been flagged by the Regional Court of Auditors, while others engage in illegal practices, such as the informal employment of minors. Nasrallah emphasized that the municipality's actions aim to restructure the sector and support regular car attendants in sustaining their operations. Elsewhere, the issuance of new licenses has been halted pending the development of a regulatory framework for parking services. This is notably the case in Tangier, where the governor of the prefecture, the wali of the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceïma region, has instructed arrondissement presidents and local authorities accordingly.
