Following the success of the opposition in toppling the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, Morocco has been discussing developments in Syria with some Arab countries, including Jordan and the UAE. In this context, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita had a phone call with his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi, during which the two parties reviewed «efforts made to support an inclusive political transition process in Syria led by Syrians to rebuild state institutions and guarantee Syria's unity, independence, sovereignty, security, safety, and rights of its citizens». The two ministers emphasized «the need to condemn Israel's occupation of Syrian territories». The two ministers reiterated their condemnation of «Israel's occupation of Syrian territories» and stressed «the necessity of ending this occupation immediately». The two ministers also discussed ways to strengthen fraternal relations between the two kingdoms, according to the Jordanian Foreign Ministry. In another phone call, Bourita and his Emirati counterpart, Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on Thursday discussed «current regional developments, including the situation in the sisterly Syrian Arab Republic». The two sides reviewed «ways to strengthen the efforts of the international community to ensure the security and stability of the brotherly Syrian people». On Monday, Nasser Bourita emphasized that the Kingdom of Morocco, «under the instructions of King Mohammed VI, always seeks to preserve the territorial unity, national sovereignty, and unity of the Syrian people», noting that it is a consistent position. Morocco hopes that these «developments will bring stability to Syria» and «achieve what the Syrian people aspire to, and bring Syria a better future», he added during a press conference organized on the sidelines of his meeting with former Kenyan Prime Minister.
