On Sunday evening, members of the Tangier prefectural criminal investigation department arrested a 33-year-old Portuguese national who was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by Portuguese authorities and an Interpol red notice. The suspect was located based on information provided by the Directorate General for Territorial Surveillance. He was apprehended in Tangier after irregularly entering Morocco. Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused is one of five dangerous criminals who escaped from prison in Portugal on September 7. The accused, who was serving a 25-year prison sentence for links with a criminal network and armed robbery, now faces a maximum prison sentence of 31 years under the international arrest warrant. The accused has been placed in police custody pending a judicial investigation ordered by the Public Prosecutor's Office and extradition procedures under international security cooperation mechanisms.
