The death toll from the fire that broke out on Wednesday, June 5th, in a market (Qayssaria al dabbagh) in the Bab Ftouh neighborhood of Fez has risen to 5. The number of injured in the incident reached 37, including those who suffered from suffocation due to smoke inhalation and those who sustained burns. According to local authorities, the fire also caused material damage to 25 shops, possibly caused by faulty electrical work during renovations in one of the shops. A judicial investigation was opened by the concerned authorities, under the supervision of the competent public prosecution, to uncover the circumstances and causes of this incident and assign responsibilities.
