This Monday, May 20, the Polisario celebrated the 51st anniversary of the launch of its armed struggle. The commemoration was organized in the Tindouf camps, on Algerian territory, under a large tent set up for the occasion, with some foreign delegations present. The traditional military parade in the «liberated territories», such as Tifariti or Bir Lahlou, did not take place. The Front has thus been prevented for the fifth consecutive year from commemorating one of its holidays in the buffer zone. In his speech, Brahim Ghali congratulated his militias on the «successes» achieved against the «Moroccan occupier», particularly since the resumption of arms on November 13, 2020. The head of the Polisario thanked the Algerian president, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for his support to the Front. He also expressed his gratitude to South Africa, particularly citing the holding of a diplomatic solidarity forum with the Polisario on May 21st in the Tindouf camps, at the initiative of the government of Cyril Ramaphosa. Finally, Brahim Ghali reiterated his call to the United Nations for the implementation of the 1991 peace plan. It's worth noting that the Polisario anticipated the commemoration of the 51st anniversary of its armed struggle by firing three projectiles on the city of Es-Smara.
