The American embassy in Rabat announced on Tuesday, February 20th, that General Michael Langley, head of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), is visiting Morocco. During his visit, General Langley is expected to meet with Moroccan defense officials to discuss shared security interests and future areas of potential cooperation, according to the embassy statement shared on X. This visit comes just weeks after the conclusion of the main planning meeting for African Lion 2024, a joint military exercise held between the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces and the US military. This marks General Langley's third trip to Morocco since his appointment as head of AFRICOM in August 2022. He previously visited the kingdom in October 2022 for meetings with senior military officials. It's important to note that Morocco and the United States signed a ten-year military cooperation agreement in October 2020, further solidifying their defense partnership.
