Spanish Foreign Affairs Minister Jose Manuel Albares is expected to visit Morocco next week, Spanish media reported. The diplomat will meet on Thursday in Rabat with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, Spanish diplomatic sources told news agency EFE. This visit is the first of its kind after the reelection of Pedro Sanchez as head of the Spanish government. Rabat and Madrid have reaffirmed their commitments to consolidating good relations between the two countries. «We wish to promote the bilateral program already agreed upon and explore the new opportunities offered by this renewed relationship», the Spanish head of government indicated on social media, on November 28, following a phone call with the head of the Moroccan government, Aziz Akhannouch. An Iberian newspaper, very close to the far right, revealed that Pedro Sanchez entrusted Jose Manuel Albares with the mission of preparing an official visit to Morocco. «Negotiations are underway (…) Rabat expects Pedro Sanchez to bring something new on top of what was agreed upon during his last trip in February». For the record, Pedro Sanchez was not received by King Mohammed VI during the Morocco-Spain high-level meeting, organized in February in Rabat.
