The number of confirmed coronavirus cases has reached 143 in Morocco, health authorities announced Monday. Two new confirmed cases have recovered, with most of the infections being located in three main regions. Morocco recorded, Monday, 28 new confirmed coronavirus cases, bringing the number of Covid-19 infections in the country to 143, the director of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division at the Health Ministry announced Monday. In a press briefing, Mohamed Lyoubi announced that two patients, who had tested positive for coronavirus in the past couple of weeks, have recovered. The announcement brings the number of coronavirus recoveries in Morocco to five. Lyoubi indicated that the two recovered Covid-19 patients are both from the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region, namely Rabat and Temara. The official also added that the number of coronavirus-related deaths has not changed, standing at four. They are, according to Lyoubi, from Casablanca (2 deaths), the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region (1) and the Beni-Mellal-Khenifra region (1). Coronavirus cases in Morocco During the same briefing, Lyoubi gave details about the 143 confirmed coronavirus cases in Morocco. He reported that 35 of these cases are located in the Fes-Meknes region while 34 of them are in the Casablanca-Settat region. 32 coronavirus cases have been recorded in the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region, 15 in Marrakech-Safi, 9 in Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, 6 in Souss-Massa, 3 in Beni-Mellal-Khenifra, 1 in Draa-Tafilalet and 1 in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region. According to Lyoubi, 643 people have tested negative for coronavirus after the health authorities suspected that they could have been infected. He also reported that 2,798 people who were in close contact with the confirmed coronavirus cases have been identified and monitored by the sanitary authorities during the last couple of weeks. According to the health official 2,117 of them are still being monitored by the health authorities while 582 others have left the quarantine after they did not show any coronavirus symptoms. Lyoubi stressed that out of the same number, 60 people were suspected to have the virus. However, after undergoing the tests, only 22 of them have tested positive for the virus. For the record, Morocco recorded its first coronavirus case earlier in March. To avoid the spread of the virus, the Kingdom has implemented a series of preventive measures, which included the suspension of air and sea travel, a state of emergency and the closure of several facilities and venues.
