Melilla councilor for Social Welfare Daniel Ventura said the statements of Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska, regarding the collaboration between the Spanish government and the Moroccan authorities for the repatriation of unaccompanied minor migrants arriving in Spain, are «typical of an election campaign», Europa Press reports. «We have never seen a real effort by Morocco to repatriate its minors», Daniel Ventura said. He further mentioned he did not give much credit to this announcement, especially concerning the proposal of the Ciudadanos party group of the Madrid regional council to speed up the regrouping of unaccompanied foreign minors following the violent assault of an employee of the minors' center of Hortaleza in Madrid. To Ventura, the words of Grande-Marlaska are nothing more than an «electoral strategy that the leaders of the PSOE show to rub up the targeted people the right way». For the record, Minister of the Interior Fernando Grande-Marlaska announced that the Spanish authorities, in collaboration with Morocco, were currently identifying the unaccompanied minor migrants who are in Spain in order to prepare for a future repatriation, stating that «a significant amount have Moroccan citizenship».
