Morocco is ranked 60th among 190 countries by the World Bank's annual report Doing Business. The Kingdom is positioned 1st in North Africa and 2nd in the Arab World. Morocco ranks 60th in the 2019 Doing Business, an annual report published by the World Bank. Made public on Wednesday, 31st of October, the report that compares business regulation for domestic firms in 190 countries indicates that the Kingdom has bettered its performance when it comes to doing business. Indeed, Morocco tops the North Africa region with 71.02 points out of 100. In the Arab World, the country is ranked 2nd behind the United Arab Emirates which leads the Arab countries list. The North Africa Kingdom has managed to improve its position in the annual survey, making it ahead of Bahrain 62nd, Oman 78th, Tunisia 80th, Qatar 83rd, Saudi Arabia 92nd, Kuwait 97th, Jordan 104th, Egypt 120th, Lebanon 142nd, Mauritania 148th, Algeria 157th and Libya 186th. Making it easier to do business The report is based on 10 major subindices that value and measure the attractiveness of every country for investors. When it comes to Morocco, the country is ranked 34th for starting a business, 18th in dealing with construction permits, 59th for getting electricity, 68th for registering property, 112th in getting a credit, 64th for protecting minority investors, 25th for paying taxes, 62nd in trading across borders, 68th for enforcing contracts and 71th in resolving insolvency. Commenting on Morocco's performance, the authors of the survey indicate that the Kingdom facilitated starting business and simplified preregistration and registration formalities. It has also managed to reduce time for registering property for investors all while increasing administrative efficiency. The Kingdom introduced electronic submission and processing of documents for exports. The country strengthened, as well, its border infrastructure for imports and exports and improved the likelihood of successful reorganization and creditors' rights. «Morocco Customs has been implementing a series of reforms in the area of human resources and communication since 1990s», wrote the authors of Doing Business report. The 2019 edition of Doing Business has been topped by New Zealand 1st, Singapore 2nd, Denmark 3rd, Honk Kong 4th, and South Korea. Libya 186th, Yemen 187th, Venezuela 188th, Eretria 189th and Somalia 190th are at the bottom of the ranking.
