The parliamentary group of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) wants to summon Abdelouafi Laftit to the House of Representatives. On Sunday night, after the heavy-handed police intervention to disperse demonstrators in front of the Parliament building in Rabat, backed by photos, videos and testimonies, Abdelali Hamieddine and Nabil Chikhi said they addressed an oral question to the Interior Minister. The question to be answered by Abdelouafi Laftit focuses mainly on the police intervention on Saturday against a peaceful demonstration. «The kingdom's constitution evokes the right of assembelinh and gathering in peaceful demonstrations (Article 29), and stresses that it is forbidden to undermine the body and dignity of a citizen», recalls the two MPs. They then stated that «several peaceful demonstrations are repressed by the local authorities without legal or reasonable justifications, recently the sit-in organized by a number of female activists on the 8th of July to support the detained artist Salima Ziani (Silia) and other political prisoners captured in the Rif». «Who is in charge of giving instructions to use force and violence while dispersing peaceful demonstrations? What is the legal basis for such a decision and what actions do you intend to take against those responsible for this?», the MPs asked. For the record, the sit-in that should have taken place in front of the Parliament building in Rabat in solidarity with Silya Ziani and the Hirak detainees was brutally repressed by the police. The mob was violently dispersed by anti-riot forces and policemen equipped with truncheons.
