The General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) elected Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, as a member of the FIFA Council for the second consecutive time. He is among six representatives of the African continent, chosen during elections held in Cairo on the sidelines of the CAF General Assembly meeting. Alongside Lekjaa, the elected members include Egyptian Hani Abou Rida, Mauritanian Ahmed Yahya, Djiboutian Suleiman Waberi, and Comorian Kanizat Ibrahim. A total of 13 candidates competed for six seats, following the removal of the geographical distribution system that previously divided the continent into six regions. The same meeting saw South African Patrice Motsepe securing a new term as CAF President. Re-elected by acclamation with no competitors, his renewed presidency also grants him automatic membership in the FIFA Council as the head of the African Confederation.
