Morocco's national carrier is planning to increase flight frequency between São Paulo and Casablanca. Direct flights between the two cities resumed two months ago, operating three times a week. Royal Air Maroc aims to increase the frequency to five or six weekly flights by the end of this year or as early as the beginning of 2026, according to Othman Baba, Royal Air Maroc's Director-General in Brazil. Quoted by the Brazil-Arab news agency ANBA, Baba announced RAM's plan on Tuesday, February 18, while visiting the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce. «First, we started with three flights, but we aim to reach five or six, as we did before the pandemic», said Baba. He stressed that flights between São Paulo and Casablanca have maintained a high occupancy rate, ranging between 85% and 88% since operations resumed. In addition to the existing route, RAM also plans to relaunch flights to Rio de Janeiro, a route it operated before the COVID-19 pandemic. RAM flights to Brazil were suspended in early 2020 due to the health crisis, while flights to São Paulo resumed in December 2024. «The Brazilian market is not new for Royal Air Maroc. We were here before the pandemic, and it was working very well for us», said Baba. «We are not stopping here because we believe the Brazilian market has great potential for our airline», he added. Regarding the Rio de Janeiro route, Baba stated that the company has yet to decide whether it will be a direct flight or connected to the São Paulo-Casablanca route. Baba further linked the success of the São Paulo-Casablanca route to the fact that most Brazilians flying on it—around 90%—are connecting to European cities. The remaining 10% travel to African countries, including Morocco. It is worth mentioning that Royal Air Maroc established its São Paulo office in November 2024, while the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) opened an office in São Paulo about a year and a half ago.
