The Moroccan Embassy in Banjul, the Gambia, was officially opened on Friday in the presence of Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Gambian counterpart, Mamadou Tangara. The ceremony was attended by Gambian officials, representatives of the diplomatic corps and consuls from European and African countries accredited in Banjul, members of the Moroccan delegation attending the 15th Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Moroccan expatriates in the Gambia, and the Chargé d'Affaires of the Moroccan Embassy, Ahmed Belhaj. The inauguration of Morocco's diplomatic representation in Banjul coincided with the 15th Islamic Summit Conference, which opened on Saturday at the «Dauda Kairaba Diawara» International Conference Center with leaders and heads of government from OIC countries in attendance. Relations between Morocco and the Gambia have flourished thanks to the existing links between King Mohammed VI and President Adama Barrow. Gambian Foreign Minister Mamadou Tangara expressed his delight at attending the inauguration alongside his Moroccan peer. He emphasized that the embassy's opening would allow Gambians to learn more about Morocco. The Minister recalled that the Gambia was the first country to open a consulate general in Dakhla, further solidifying the excellent relations between the two countries.
