Morocco's National Tourism Office (ONMT) and United Airlines have announced an agreement to launch a new direct flight between New York and Marrakech. This will be the first ever direct flight from the United States to Morocco operated by an American carrier, according to an ONMT press release. The new route, which will begin operating in October 2024 and fly three times per week, will depart from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and arrive at Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK). «We are proud today to be the first destination in North Africa to be served by one of the largest American airlines», ONMT head Adel El Fakir said. «The launch of this historic route brings us closer to achieving our medium-term objective of reaching one million tourists and is part of our aggressive action plan to strengthen our presence in this high value-added market», he added, stating that Morocco welcomed 388,000 American tourists in 2023. «We are proud to be the first and only airline to offer direct flights from Marrakech to the United States, allowing our customers in Morocco to benefit from convenient connections through our New York/Newark hub to 76 cities within across the Americas», Marcel Fuchs, United Airlines International Sales Director, said. The flight will be operated using a Boeing 767-300 aircraft with 167 seats and will be offered on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
