The Polisario is leading a campaign against Morocco's bid to head the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). After the online meeting attended by representatives of Sahrawi associations, the leadership of the Front organized a meeting in the Tindouf camps, against the Moroccan bid. While the «Collective of Sahrawi Human Rights Defenders in Western Sahara (CODESA)», chaired by Ali Salem Tamek, responded to the campaign, calling, in a press release, for the rejection of the Moroccan candidacy, the «Sahrawi Authority against the Moroccan occupation», led by Sahrawi activist Aminatou Haidar, has not yet officially communicated on this subject. The Front's representative in Geneva, Oubi Bouchraya, is holding more meetings with the allies of the separatist movement, through the «Geneva Support Group for the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights in Western Sahara» led by South Africa and Algeria to oppose the Moroccan project. Morocco's bid to head the UNHRC for the year 2024 has already been supported by the Arab League. Algeria and South Africa, the two main allies of the Polisario, will also be members of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the period 2023-2025.
