Morocco is determined to strengthen its cooperation with the emerging countries of Southeast Asia. On this occasion, the kingdom's ambassador to Indonesia revealed that the two countries are negotiating a preferential agreement to speed up bilateral trade. Indonesia sees Morocco as a hub to conquer a booming African market. It was in 1960 that Rabat and Jakarta established diplomatic relations. On the Sahara issue, Indonesia, a former member of the Security Council from January 1, 2019 to January 31, 2020, has always pleaded for a political solution accepted by the parties. In September 2016, Morocco joined the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
