US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, David Schenker, arrived Saturday morning in the Moroccan city of Laayoune. Upon his arrival at Hassan 1st Airport in Laayoune, the US official was welcomed by the wali of Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region, governor of the province of Laayoune, Abdeslem Bekrate. Afterwards, the US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs visited the city of Laayoune, in particular the diplomatic quarter which houses the consulates of several countries. He also visited the headquarters of the United Nations mission in the Sahara (Minurso).
