The capital of the Kingdom of Morocco, Rabat, was included on Tuesday in the list of the Islamic world heritage, during the 11th congress of culture ministers which is currently held in Tunis at the initiative of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Isesco). A press release from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports said that this decision was taken on the basis of a proposal presented by El Hassan Abyaba, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, spokesperson of the government, during this Congress, in the presence of ambassador of Morocco in Tunis, Hassan Tariq. It is a recognition of the historic and civilizational status that Rabat enjoys under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, as a human heritage and a place of coexistence and unity, said the press release, adding that the capital of the Kingdom also embodies «modern renaissance» through the cultural and development projects under the «Rabat, city of lights and cultural capital of Morocco» program, and this is in line with the cultural and civilizational specificities making it one of the African and Islamic capitals. The inclusion of the city of Rabat in the list of Islamic heritage will give a strong impetus to efforts made by Morocco to safeguard and enhance the national tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
