Sixteen sub-Saharan would-be illegal immigrants were killed and 17 others were injured on Saturday morning when their vehicle crashed into an irrigation canal between the north-eastern cities of Saidia and Nador, local authorities said. The injured were rushed into Berkane's provincial hospital to receive the necessary health care, the source added. An investigation in underway to determine the circumstances of the accident and the ramifications of the organizers of this illegal immigration attempt, it said. The driver, who is on the run, is sought by the police.
