The United States Agency for International Development (USAID Morocco) in partnership with professional development center Locus English, announced, Thursday in Casablanca, the launch of a program that trains teachers on transmitting workplace professionalism values and soft skills to their students. The objective of this initiative is to better equip Moroccan students with the skills needed to increase their competitiveness within the job market. Thirty high school and university teachers from all over Morocco will take part in this program. It starts with a 2-month online training on topics related to teamwork, communications, CV writing and job interview preparation. The training concludes with a series of workshops where the 30 teacher trainees will implement what they have learned by helping 60 soon-to-graduate students prepare for their job hunt. The said workshops will take place next fall in the USAID Career Centers in Tangier, Marrakech and Casablanca. The USAID Career Centers serve as a venue where young job seekers connect with businesses. The Career Center's idea can be replicated by any other institution wishing to promote the employability skills of its students or trainees, noting that the program is accessible online, to all young Moroccans on www.careercenter.ma. «This training aims at helping every young person to know themselves better and to opt for a sector or a job that fits them», said Andy Halus, Director of the American Cultural Center (Dar America). Quoting a 2013 study by the World Economic Forum, Locus English underlined that the lack of business-related soft skills and low levels of English limit the Moroccan youth's employment prospects. This program aims to address that gap by targeting university and high school teachers on the front lines of youth development, who will learn how they can better equip their students with the skills they need for workplace success.
