Morocco's Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) seized 541 kg of cocaine concealed in a shipping container from South America at the port of Casablanca. This operation which took place on the basis of accurate information provided by the general directorate for national territory surveillance (DGST) led to the arrest of 6 people, including the mastermind of this criminal network, a Brazilian national, BCIJ said Sunday in a statement. A sample of the drug was sent to the Scientific Police's Laboratory to determine the concentration of cocaine, the source said, adding that five cars intended to be used for the transport of the drug were also seized, in addition to large sums of money in national and foreign currencies. The preliminary investigation reveals the dangerous nature of this criminal network, its transnational ramifications and links with cartels in Latin America, which now exploit the strategic location of the Kingdom as a transit point to Europe, BCIJ pointed out. Investigation is underway, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office, to dismantle this criminal network and arrest all the people involved in this drug-trafficking attempt.
