The Islamic Community of Melilla is calling on its followers to forgo the Eid sacrifice this year, following the directive of King Mohammed VI. In a press release, the association's board of directors, led by Mohamed Ahmed Moh, stated that the economic and climate crisis has made this tradition increasingly difficult for many families, mainly due to the rising cost of livestock. The organization noted that the price of a sheep in Melilla has surged from €250 to €800. However, some Spanish media outlets remain skeptical of the reasons given by the Islamic Community of Melilla. OK Diario, a media outlet aligned with Vox, criticized the decision, stating, «The Muslims of Melilla follow Mohammed VI's directive and ask not to sacrifice lambs after Ramadan». As a reminder, on February 26, King Mohammed VI called on Moroccans to refrain from performing the Eid sacrifice rite this year.
