Belgium views Morocco's 2007 autonomy plan as a «serious and credible effort, describing it as a solid foundation for a solution acceptable to all parties involved». This was emphasized by Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs, Foreign Trade, and Cultural Institutions, Bernard Quintin, during a press briefing in Rabat. The briefing followed his meeting with Nasser Bourita, Morocco's Foreign Minister. Minister Quintin noted that his discussions with Bourita provided him with a deeper understanding of the autonomy plan's intricacies and highlighted the existential significance of this issue for Morocco. «We recognize the importance of this matter to Morocco», he stated. He further remarked that some significant European and international partners have shifted their positions on the issue. «Morocco and Belgium will continue to engage in constructive dialogue on this subject», he affirmed. Belgium fully supports the United Nations process aimed at achieving a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution. Minister Quintin reiterated Belgium's acknowledgment of the UN's exclusive role in the political process. Additionally, he reaffirmed Belgium's backing of UN Security Council Resolution 2703, which highlights the parties' responsibilities in seeking a realistic, pragmatic, and enduring political solution based on compromise.
