The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) has completed a project to secure the drinking water supply for the Amgrew fishing village in the province of Tarfaya, utilizing a seawater desalination plant. This desalination plant is ONEE's 12th and its 10th in the Kingdom's southern provinces, according to an ONEE press release. Financed by ONEE and the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra Regional Council, at a total cost of approximately 26.1 million dirhams, the project involves equipping a seawater borehole with a flow rate of 1,037 m³ per day and building a seawater desalination plant with a drinking water production capacity of 432 m³ per day. The project also includes the construction of storage tanks for raw and treated water, a 250 KVA MV/LV transformer substation, a 700-meter-long discharge pipe, and a 250 m³ elevated storage tank for treated water, according to the same source. Part of the new development model for the southern provinces, signed by HM King Mohammed VI, this project will meet the drinking water needs of the Amgrew fishing village, improve living conditions for the population, and support the region's socio-economic development.
