After the Polisario, it's Algeria's turn to welcome the ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), rejecting the appeals against its ruling of September 29, 2021. «Algeria welcomes the rulings made public on October 4 by the Court of Justice of the European Union, confirming the illegality of the trade agreements concluded with the Kingdom of Morocco, in violation of the inalienable rights of the Saharawi people over the natural resources of the non-autonomous territory of Western Sahara», says the Algerian Foreign Ministry in a statement. «These rulings confirm the doctrine of the United Nations, which enshrines the sovereignty of the peoples of non-self-governing territories over their natural resources, and the imperative of ensuring the protection of these resources against any plundering or predation to which they may fall victim, as abundantly illustrated by the case of Western Sahara», adds the Algerian diplomatic service. Algiers is also responding to messages signed by European powers and the European Commission, welcoming the partnership with Morocco. «Algeria regrets that certain European countries (...) have rejected the rulings of the Court of Justice of the European Union. This attitude shows how little regard these countries have for international and European law», deplored the Ministry. Last night, the Polisario welcomed the CJEU rulings. The two rulings «constitute a great victory for the Saharawi people, without precedent in the history of decolonization», said the Front.
