Moroccan international Abdessamad Ezzalzouli led his team Real Betis to victory over Ukrainian side Hirnyk in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League preliminary round, securing their advancement to the group stage. Real Betis won the match with a clean sheet, despite having already won the first leg by two goals to nil. In the closing minutes of the first half, Ezzalzouli provided an assist for Aitor Ruibal's first goal (40th minute). A minute later, Ezzalzouli added the second goal, and two minutes after that, he scored his second personal goal and his team's third. Despite playing only 59 minutes of the match, Ezzalzouli was named man of the match. This brilliance came just hours after national coach Walid Regragui announced his call-up to the Moroccan national team to play Gabon and Lesotho on September 6 and 9 at Agadir Stadium in the first and second rounds of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
