The Catalans are back to the ballot boxes on Sunday, May 12, to elect a new parliament. Opinion polls indicate that the regional Socialist Party is set to win, led by former Health Minister Salvador Ia. The socialists are followed by two independent groups: the Republican Left and Junts ('Together'). The elections are also important for the Spanish-Moroccan community residing in Catalonia. Moroccan left-wing party Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP) has called on them to vote, Sunday, in favor of the Catalan Socialists. The Catalan political party, close to the Moroccan socialists represents the «only hope» for an «inclusive and prosperous society for all Catalans, regardless of their origins», USFP said. Previously, the regional secretariat of USFP in Spain had called on the Spanish-Moroccan community to vote for the Socialist Party led by Pedro Sanchez in the early legislative elections on July 23, 2023. A similar message was directed to them during the local and legislative elections, which took place successively in May and November 2019.
