At a press briefing in Algiers yesterday, March 26th, the Algerian Foreign Minister stressed that the Sahara question is not closed, Algerian media reported. «The issue is still being examined by the Committee of 24 of the UN, which still considers Western Sahara eligible for decolonization», said Ahmed Attaf. Furthermore, «the Security Council will address this issue next month», he added. «The Saharawi question is not closed, and MINURSO remains deployed in Western Sahara. This issue has only been closed in Morocco's mind, but the UN data is irrefutable and established», he stressed, responding to a question on the subject. The upcoming presidency of the UN Security Council by Malta in April will determine the schedule for discussions on the regional dispute. It is worth mentioning that Algeria is currently a non-permanent member of the Security Council until the end of 2025.
