The Moroccan Embassy to the Holy See hosted a ceremony on February 7th to honor Cardinal Pietro Parolin, newly appointed honorary member of the Royal Moroccan Academy. The event highlighted the shared importance of dialogue and understanding in overcoming global conflicts, Vatican News reported. Cardinal Parolin emphasized the «warm relations» between Morocco and the Holy See, underscoring their alignment with Pope Francis' call for interfaith brotherhood. He stressed the critical role of «dialogue based on truth, intellectual honesty, and mutual understanding» in achieving peaceful coexistence despite differences. In light of «a deeply troubling international context marked by wars and conflicts threatening to escalate into civilizational or religious clashes», Parolin urged «rejection of fanaticism and fundamentalism through the solidarity of all believers». Moroccan Ambassador Raja Naji Makkawi highlighted Morocco's efforts to promote peace in the Holy Land, reiterating the country's «insistence on a political solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict». She emphasized the need for a two-state solution with East Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital, echoing the joint appeal made by King Mohammed VI and Pope Francis during the Pope's 2019 visit to Morocco.
