Morocco emerged victorious after a challenging encounter with Zambia in their final Group F match at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Cote d'Ivoire. While Zambian strikers kept the Atlas Lions on their toes throughout the 90 minutes, they couldn't find the net. Morocco's lone goal came from right winger Hakim Ziyech in the 37th minute, sealing the win. Despite Zambia's 41% possession and 11 shots (2 on target), Morocco commanded a solid 59% of the ball and peppered the Zambian goal with 17 attempts (7 on target). However, Morocco's play resulted in 17 fouls and a yellow card for Achraf Hakimi. Defensive midfielder Sofyan Amrabat was named Man of the Match. Notable was the absence of coach Walid Regragui, suspended for four matches (two deferred) by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following the January 21st post-match clash against DR Congo. As previously announced, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation is appealing the suspension. With their victory, Morocco finishes atop Group F and qualifies for the Round of 16, where they will face South Africa on Tuesday, January 30th.
