During a telephonic press briefing, held Tuesday, Maj. Gen. Andrew M. Rohling, the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa commander and the U.S. Army Europe and Africa deputy commanding general, said that the Africa Lion 2021 military exercise «will be a good training opportunity for [US] allies». The press briefing discussed the U.S. Army decision on consolidating the U.S. Army Europe and U.S. Army Africa into a single, four-star-command, U.S. Army Europe and Africa. It also touched upon the multinational African Lion training exercise scheduled in June 2021. Said military training will be held in three countries, namely Morocco, Tunisia and Senegal. According to General Rohling «Tunisia will be the conduit for African Lion in the majority of the training in the region». Canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, the African Lion 21 is «designed to be flexible» and will be attended by nearly «5,000 military personnel from North Africa and elsewhere». For the record, planners from U.S. Southern European Task Force met in Agadir with their Moroccan military counterparts on Jan. 20-30 to make arrangements for the largest military exercise in Africa.
