King Mohammed VI has decided to dedicate a grant for the refurbishment and restoration of some of the Al-Aqsa mosque's facilities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said in a communiqué relayed by MAP press agency Wednesday. Moroccan architects and craftsmen will be sent to Palestine to contribute to these works, aiming at preserving the unique architecture and authenticity of the holy mosque, the ministry added. The Moroccan sovereign, in his capacity as chairman of the Al Quds Committee, ordered that these works be conducted in collaboration with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the same source said. For the record, on Monday night, a fire broke in Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem, burning down the Marwani Prayer Room. According to the official Palestinian news agency, a guard said that the fire «broke out in the guard's room outside the roof of the Marwani Prayer Room, and the fire brigade of the Islamic Waqf handled the matter successfully».
