Spanish trade union the Workers' Commissions (CCOO) has urged Pedro Sanchez' government to «launch negotiations with Morocco for the opening of a new border crossing» in Ceuta, reported Europa Press on Saturday. CCOO stressed the «urgent and essential» need for the new facility to «get the city's local economy from a very complicated situation», says the same source. In a letter sent to the Spanish government, Juan Luis Arostegui, the Union's secretary-general, warned against the pressure put on the Tarajal border crossing. Arostegui referred to the multiple stampedes that took place in the crossing, indicating that Tarajal is the only way for commercial activities. The trade unionist also criticized the fact that the second border crossing, «Tarajal II» should be dedicated «entirely to the entry of tourists and visitors», the thing that has not been achieved.
