The African Football Confederation (CAF) announced on Saturday in Morocco that it would organize the 5th edition of the African Championship of local football players (CHAN) scheduled from January 12 to February 4, 2018, said on Sunday the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF). The CAF has chosen Morocco because of its «infrastructure, sports complexes, training stadiums, hotel units, hospitals and means of transportation,» said the FRMF in a statement. The Moroccan file was unanimously chosen by the members of the Emergency Committee meeting in Lagos, Nigeria, for the Equatorial Guinean and Ethiopian candidates who were competing for the organization of this competition, held every two years with the participation of 16 national selections made up of players playing in the championships of their country. On the 4th of October, the FRMF appointed the cities of Casablanca, Marrakech, Agadir and Tangier to host this edition, which was going to take place in Kenya. The last CAF competition organized in Morocco was the African Cup of Under 23s (qualifier at the 2012 Olympics) organized in 2011 at the Great Stadiums of Marrakech and Tangier, won by Gabon.
