Muslim and Jewish Moroccans were reunited recently in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in a cultural event that highlights the diversity and richness of the Moroccan culture and the traditional Moroccan Jewish art. During this ceremony organized by the Israelite consistory of Luxembourg, presided by Albert Aflalou and attended by the consul general of Morocco in Liège, Hassan Touri, the attendees watched the movie «Tinghir-Jérusalem, les echos du mellah». The documentary directed by Kamal Hachkar sheds light on the life of Moroccan Jews who lived in the Kingdom between 1950-1960 and the tolerance that made them coexist in harmony. A number of people have attended the event alongside Moroccan senior officials and representatives of the Jewish community of Moroccan descent. The movie screening was followed by a debate aiming to discuss the citizenship and the love Moroccan Jews hold for their country. Speaking during this event, the Consul of Morocco in Liège have stressed the values of peace, fraternity and multiculturalism that have always characterized the history of Morocco. On this occasion, he highlighted the efforts that King Mohammed VI makes to help the Moroccan Jewish community, noting in particular the recent achievements which consisted in the restoration of the Synagogue of Casablanca and 167 Jewish shrines and cemeteries, as well as the refurbishment of the Mellah and the restitution of the Jewish names to several streets of the city of Marrakech.
