The Spanish shipping company Baleària has announced that its new route between Tarifa and Tangier Ville will be operational from the second week of May, with tickets available for purchase starting next week. «We will begin operating the Tarifa–Tangier Ville line from the second week of May, with four daily departures from each port», the company stated in a press release. Baleària plans to gradually increase its departures throughout the summer, offering services across a wide time range, it added. This new one-hour route is part of Baleària's efforts to strengthen its presence in the Strait of Gibraltar. It marks the company's fourth connection between Spain and Morocco, the same source specified. As part of this new route, Baleària plans to build two fast ferries that are 100% electric and zero-emission. These vessels will pioneer the first green corridor between Spain and Morocco and are expected to be operational by 2027.
