Spanish companies are being encouraged to invest in projects related to the 2030 World Cup in Morocco. The Secretary of State for Trade, Amparo López Senovilla, has expressed her support for Spanish companies' involvement in major investment initiatives in Morocco, particularly in the context of the 2030 Men's World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. Senovilla visited Morocco this week to advocate for this objective. Over two days, she followed an intensive schedule of bilateral and economic meetings, first in Casablanca and then in Rabat. During her visit, she met with the Wali of Casablanca and held discussions with Morocco's Ministers of Industry and Commerce, Equipment and Water, and Economy and Finance. These meetings focused on strengthening economic and financial cooperation, according to an official press release. Senovilla reaffirmed the Spanish government's commitment to supporting key projects in Morocco, particularly in infrastructure modernization, an area where Spanish companies have considerable expertise. This commitment was further demonstrated by the recent approval of more than 750 million euros by the Council of Ministers to fund a strategic train supply project. This initiative is expected to play a significant role in upgrading Morocco's railway sector ahead of the 2030 World Cup. «The successful completion of this project will be a testament to Spain's leadership and expertise in the railway industry», López Senovilla emphasized. Beyond infrastructure, Spain is eager to foster business collaboration with Morocco in sectors such as construction, mobility, digitalization, and tourism. According to the Ministry of Economy, Spanish companies already hold a strong position in Morocco, particularly in energy, infrastructure, automotive, banking, and technology. Many have been involved in key projects and have built a well-established presence in the country. Currently, more than 350 Spanish companies operate in Morocco, contributing significantly to the local economy and creating jobs. Spain remains Morocco's largest trading partner, with bilateral trade exceeding 22.5 billion euros annually. In 2024, Spanish exports to Morocco grew by approximately 6%, making it one of the fastest-growing export destinations. Additionally, Spain maintains a trade surplus with Morocco of over 3 billion euros.
