In a tragic incident in Aschaffenburg, Germany, two individuals, including a young Moroccan child, lost their lives in a knife attack perpetrated by an Afghan man. The attack also left two others injured. The assailant, a 28-year-old Afghan national, had previously applied for asylum, which was rejected in December, and was reportedly suffering from mental health issues. The attack unfolded on the morning of Wednesday, January 22, in a park in Aschaffenburg, located in Bavaria. Armed with a kitchen knife, the attacker targeted a group of children as they were leaving a nursery. Joachim Herrmann, Bavaria's Minister of the Interior, commented on the incident, stating, «Two people were killed in this attack. One of them was a two-year-old Moroccan child, while the other was a 41-year-old German who happened to be there and tried to intervene». Among the injured was a girl who remains in serious condition. Following the attack, the perpetrator attempted to flee towards the train station. However, quick-thinking passers-by pursued him, leading to his arrest by police just 12 minutes after the incident.
