Morocco aims to open shipping lines with other African countries. «In the next few days, the Kingdom will launch a commercial shipping service between Agadir and Dakar», announced Omar Hejira, Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, at the House of Councillors on Tuesday. He stressed that «the government is open to all proposals aimed at strengthening maritime connectivity between Morocco and Africa. Morocco is also open to all companies wishing to link Moroccan ports to African ports». Last week, a memorandum of understanding was signed in Agadir between a British company, Atlas Marine, and Moroccan and Senegalese partners to link the Moroccan city to Dakar. In his speech on November 6, 2023, King Mohammed VI invited the government and professionals in the sector «to reflect on the constitution of a strong and competitive national merchant marine fleet (...) The establishment of a maritime economy must continue in order to consolidate the development of the entire region (Sahara, editor's note) and benefit local populations».
