Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, who is leading the Moroccan delegation at the 29th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Azerbaijan, was welcomed on Tuesday at the Olympic Stadium in Baku by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and UN Secretary-General António Guterres. The Head of Government was accompanied by Minister of Energy and Sustainable Development Leila Benali and Moroccan Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mohamed Adil Embarch. Akhannouch visited various areas of the Moroccan and Azerbaijani stands, located within the blue zone of the Olympic Stadium in Baku, and attended briefings on both countries' achievements in climate action, particularly renewable energy. This global summit (November 11-22) will provide an opportunity to assess progress in mitigating climate change and to negotiate the best strategies to combat this phenomenon. The Conference will primarily focus on climate finance, given the need to enable all countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect lives and livelihoods from the worsening impacts of climate change, especially for vulnerable communities.
