Morocco and the United States concluded a twinning agreement on Friday in Washington, D.C., linking the National Laboratory of Scientific Police under the General Directorate of National Security with the renowned Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the United States, according to a press release from the Moroccan embassy in the US. The agreement was signed at the U.S. State Department in the presence of Assistant Secretary of State Mallory Stewart and Moroccan Ambassador Youssef Amrani. A high-level Moroccan delegation also attended the ceremony, including Ismaïl Chekkori, Director of Global Issues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad (representing the National Authority on the Chemical Weapons Convention), Police Prefect Taoufik Sayerh, and Divisional Commissioner Hakima Yahya. Ambassador Amrani hailed the agreement as «a very special mark of the trust and unwavering commitment that drives the development of our relationship with the United States». He emphasized the accord's potential to «anchor new processes and new means» within their scientific collaboration, fostering advanced interoperability between the laboratories. He further highlighted the alignment between Morocco and the US on issues of international peace and security. The Moroccan delegation welcomed the agreement, noting its potential to strengthen the bilateral partnership and contribute to multilateral efforts towards disarmament and non-proliferation, particularly regarding the Chemical Weapons Convention. The U.S. Assistant Secretary of State echoed these sentiments, underscoring the value placed on the strong partnership with Morocco. They expressed a shared ambition to build upon existing collaborations and explore new areas of cooperation to further deepen and diversify the relationship.
