The Mauritanian Parliament hosted the launch of the new Morocco-Mauritania parliamentary friendship group on Thursday, January 25th, reports Mauritanian news agency AMI. In the absence of National Assembly President retired General Mohamed Ould Meguett, his deputy Moussa Demba Sow, from the INSAF (presidential) party, attended the ceremony alongside Culture Minister Ahmed Sayed Ahmed Agg, Moroccan Ambassador to Nouakchott Hamid Chabar, and other dignitaries. This launch comes two days after Ould Meguett's visit to Algeria (January 19-22), marked by the signing of a framework protocol for parliamentary cooperation with the Algerian House of Representatives and the creation of a large, annually-meeting parliamentary committee. A Moroccan parliamentary delegation led by House of Advisors President Naam Miyara visited Mauritania in July 2022. They, along with then-National Assembly President Cheikh Ould Ahmed Ould Bayeh, agreed to launch a Moroccan-Mauritanian parliamentary forum, a project yet to materialize following Mauritania's legislative elections in May last year.
