A Royal Navy frigate on sea patrol intercepted, on Sunday, a pirogue southwest of the town of Dakhla, 70 km from the coast, carrying 57 sub-Saharan would-be migrants, including 4 women. The pirogue was bound for the Canary Islands, the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces said in a press release. The people rescued received the necessary care on board, before being taken to the Dakhla port and handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie for the usual administrative procedures, the statement concluded.
