South African President Cyril Ramaphosa urged on Sunday the new American President Joe Biden to cancel the American recognition of Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara, calling it «illegal». During a meeting of the ANC's national executive committee, Ramaphosa pleaded for a «rapid annulment» of this decision. The South African president said that President Biden has to «speedily reverse the imposition of Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara». Cyril Ramaphosa also assured that his country intends to «intensify» its efforts within the African Union to «guarantee the right of Sahrawis to self-determination». On Wednesday January 20, Naledi Pandor, South African Minister of Foreign Affairs, sent a message to Joe Biden, asking for the cancellation of the decision. «This decision breaches the resolutions of the UN which demanded a referendum - which was delayed by about three decades», she said.
