A Moroccan delegation led by director general of the national hydrocarbon and mining office (ONHYM), Amina Benkhadra, took part in a meeting of the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline Steering Committee in Abuja with major international oil and gas companies operating in Nigeria, says, on Tuesday, the Moroccan embassy in Nigeria. This meeting, which was attended by the new CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari, aimed to present the progress of the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline Project and to discuss, with the gas companies, the preliminary conditions for the supply of this strategic gas pipeline, the same source adds. On this occasion, the two parties stressed that this major project, born out of the vision of King Mohammed VI and president of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari, is meant to develop West African regional integration, deliver gas to populations and industries while enabling Nigeria to ensure a new route for exporting its abundant gas resources. The project will also speed up the economic and social development of the populations and ensure an alternative source of gas for Europe, they underlined. In addition, Kyari highlighted the strategic importance of this pipeline for Nigeria and Morocco as well as for all West African countries, noting that this project represents «not only an opportunity for Nigerian gas, but will also promote the economic development of the countries of the sub-region».
