Sending his wishes for Eid al-Fitr, King Abdullah II of Jordan commended King Mohammed VI's support for the Hashemite custodianship of Al Quds holy sites. King Abdullah II of Jordan commended on Monday, June 3, the support provided by King Mohammed VI to Al Quds and his custodianship of the city's holy sites. During a meeting with members of the Jerusalem Awqaf Council and Jerusalem Church Council, Jerusalemites and representatives of Arab Israelis held at Al Husseiniya Palace, the Jordanian monarch «voiced appreciation for King Mohammed VI of Morocco for his support for Jerusalem», Jordan News Agency (Petra) reported. «There is no better support» than the one provided by «my brother and cousin, the King of Morocco» to «Jordan and Al Quds», he acknowledged. King Mohammed VI Jordan's custodianship of Al Quds holy sites King Abdullah II also commended the level of coordination between Morocco and Jordan regarding the situation of the holy city. «I thank my brother very much for his positions», said the Jordanian monarch, referring to the Moroccan sovereign. During the same meeting, King Abdullah addressed his family's custodianship on Jerusalem's holy sites. Indeed, the Jordanian monarchy has been managing Al Aqsa Mosque, the Dome of the Rock (Kobbat Assakhra) and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher since 1946. This privileged status is now threatened by the «Deal of the Century», a peace plan suggested by the White House to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Jordan's custodianship is mainly behind Amman's position regarding President Donald Trump's plan and the international conference, expected to introduce the economic portion of the deal in Bahrain in June 25 and 26. For the record, Jordan's custodianship of Al Quds' holy sites was at the heart of a meeting held in March, when King Abdullah visited Morocco. After two days spent in Rabat, the Jordanian sovereign returned to his country reassured by the position of King Mohammed VI which was in favor of the «historic Hashemite tutelage, assured by Abdullah II, on Islamic and Christian holy sites in Al Quds». The final declaration of the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, held on May 31 in Mecca, also provided support for Jordanian custodianship over Muslim and Christian holy sites in Al Quds.
