After the American President announced moving the American embassy to the contested holy city of Jerusalem, recognizing it as the capital of Israel, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Nasser Bourita met with the American Chargé d'Affaires in Morocco, the Russian, Chinese, French, British and Palestinian Ambassadors to Rabat on Wednesday, the Ministry said in a statement sent today to Yabiladi. During this meeting, the Minister formally handed over to the American Chargé d'Affaires, Stephanie Miley, the letter king Mohammed VI sent to the American President Donald Trump. In this message, the sovereign stressed that the decision «would have a negative impact on prospects for achieving a just, comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, particularly as the United States of America is one of the main sponsors of the peace process – one that enjoys the trust of all parties». Finally, the Minister reiterated the Kingdom's firm support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights, especially the establishment of an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital. He also stressed that, following the instructions of the sovereign, Mahmoud Abbas and the Kingdom of Morocco will work together to follow up on the situation. For the record, the President of the United States informed his Palestinian counterpart, Mahmoud Abbas by phone of his intention to move the embassy from Tel Aviv to Al-Quds. Trump also announced the same thing to Jordan's king Abdellah II. Trump is due to speak Wednesday on the status of Jerusalem, according to the White House.
