South Africa's Jack Christofides, who is Director Africa Division II of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations arrived in Laayoune, Wednesday, for a twenty-four-hour visit. The South African official is expected to meet the MINURSO leader Colin Stewart and Major General Zia Ur Rehman. He is supposed to present a report on the problems that hinder the mission of peacekeepers in Western Sahara after this visit. In resolution 2468, adopted April 30th, the UN Security Council urged the UN Secretary-General to monitor the difficulties faced by MINURSO and find ways to overcome them. On Tuesday in New York, a Polisario representative met French Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations at the United Nations.
